Ham Furs Amateur Radio Q&A
"So you're a beginner interested in Amateur Radio... or maybe you're a long-time operator who wants to meet fellow furries in the field... or perhaps you fall somewhere in the middle?

Ask yourself, do you want to get a chance to ask those burning technical questions to a panel of long-time radio operators and examiners? Want to get hands-on and a chance to handle various types of Amateur Radio gear and technology?

No matter where you are on the experience spectrum, if you answered yes to the above questions, then you should come out to our Ham Furs Amateur Radio Q&A Session at Anthrocon!

Based on the great audience questions we had at last year's meet-and-greet panel, we've slightly restructured our panel this year to offer an official Q&A session in addition to show-and-tell. Our team of Volunteer Examiners will be on hand before the FCC Amateur Radio Exam to answer your questions about anything from basics of Radio Frequency operations, to specific how-to for today's technology.

Our panel has a combined 40+ years of RF, Engineering, and IT/Cybersecurity experience to draw on, and is happy to talk about our nerdiest hobby.

Welcome to Fursuiting in Action, a panel series that focuses on the application of fursuit performance. In this panel we take the Fursuiting 101 skills and apply them, offering fursuiters the opportunity to receive direct feedback on how to improve their skills beyond the basics, kinda like a Fursuiting 201 if you will!

This panel is highly interactive and will require volunteer fursuiters (both partial and full) to ensure its success!

In this session in particular, we talk about how to make memorable interactions throughout your fursuit's character development. Our host, the King of Purple, has branded himself in many ways around the color purple, incorporating prop design, color choice, spoken words, and other impactful messaging to communicate while Making Purple Memories for his audience.

We will be covering three core elements of fursuiting through the course of the panel:

2. The Talking Element (Verbal & Non-Verbal Communication for silent suiters too)

Healthy Fursuiting
Most of us have heard about how to care for our fursuits, but what about the person inside of the fursuit?
Fursuiting can involve activities that increase our internal temperature, increase our heart rate, and put our bodies under a lot of stress. But things you can do before, during, and after fursuiting can help you to fursuit longer, recover faster, and get back out in your fluffy carpet sooner. They say that fursuiting is cardio, and like cardio we can make fursuiting easier and more fun by following precautions and preparing ourselves.

Some of the stuff I'll be covering:
- Hydration basics (Gatorade has what now?)
- Under the fursuit (Please wear something)
- Working up a sweat (In and out of the suit)
- Post suiting (It's gotta end at some point...)
- Possibly injuries (Stuff happens, oops)
- What to do if you do overdo it (Don't freak out)

Whether you're a newbie or someone who's been suiting for a while, come and learn how to better take care of what's under the colorful carpet of fur! Got your own experiences and recovery methods? Come share them!

Our furry team of FCC-authorized proctors can provide all elements of the FCC amateur radio exam, up to the Amateur Extra level.

Regardless of which level(s) of exam you take, there is a required exam fee of $15.00 (we can accept cash or Venmo) to cover our Exam Coordinator's (ARRL) fees. Re-tests are time-limited and require an additional $15.00 fee.

You can make a Story Bible! A Story Bible is a tool to help any author organize the aspects of their world-building—the cultures, rules of magic and/or science, weather, politics, ecology, economy, and all other kinds of nitty gritty details, timelines of important plot points and histories, character interviews and designs, and more—in a handy physical or digital body of reference for when you’re fleshing out your later drafts. In this lecture we will talk about how to make or acquire the right kind of book, what kind of materials to use (no drawing skills required—and if you are an artist, GO NUTS), what kind of information to include and how to organize it depending on the kind of story you are writing, and how to use your bible to add layers of depth to your characters and stories. Fursuiting (301) in Action: Theories Behind the Fluff
Welcome to Fursuiting in Action, a panel that seeks to bring fursuiters together to learn about the leading edge theories of fursuit performance. Experience with fursuiting is highly encouraged for attendees to grant the largest benefit. This panel aims to provide communal awareness and knowledge to how fursuiting works, how it draws in the attention of others, and make successful fursuiting scenes in both public and con-space settings.

This panel is highly interactive and will require volunteer fursuiters (both partial and full) to ensure its success!

In this session in particular, our host, the King of Purple, will divulge his latest theories of fursuiting and attempt to explain how these work with attracting crowds of onlookers and take audience fursuiters on stage to demonstrate how this works and teach many on how to apply them in the real world.

We will be covering the following theories of fursuiting through the course of the panel. With each of these we will pull volunteers out of the audience to perform them and learn with the hosts:

Join us for a beginner level puppet fabrication workshop making simple hand puppets with loads of personality! The panel will have supplies for 25 participants, and supplies will be provided on a first come first serve basis. Young at Heart: The Inner-Child Furs (18+)
It's time to let go of those adult responsibilities and just be a kid again! What's better than an AnthroCoaster? The theme-park and goodies surrounding it! What kid doesn't like a big bag of popcorn, cotton candy, or ice cream? Well, we might not have those, but we'll try to have at least the scratch-and-sniff stickers! Get on the nostalgia ride with us, as we explore what it means to be Young at Heart once more. We encourage our guests to this panel to bring toys for sharing (and hand-sanitizer too), but please - no sharing of food or drink. This event prohibits recording: No photos. No video. No audio. Please keep phones on silent and put away. Please do not bring any sort of camera or recording device; you will be asked to leave.

Q: What is the panel like?

A: Young at Heart is like a big playdate. Near the start of the panel, a children's book will be read to help set the mood, and grabbags will be handed out. The items within the grabbags vary slightly to encourage friend-making through swapping stickers and activity books. We provide crayons and activity / colouring sheets to encourage parallel play. The middle of the panel is free time, allowing for this interaction. Towards the end of the panel, we have the children's book parodies with cheeky adult humor. We do these at the end because we realise not everybody wants to hear these stories while in littlespace. You are free to leave as soon or late as you wish, and nobody will force you to interact with anybody. If you're sitting alone, however, one of the panel hosts might come to check on you to make sure you're okay. ♥ We want everybody to be comfortable as possible.


Q: I'm bringing snacks for my small friend group, is that okay?

A: 100% a-okay! If you're bringing something like cookies for your current friends who you know will be at the panel, it's fine. But please share only among your small group. You (the food-bringer) are also responsible for cleaning up any mess caused by partaking in said snacks. Even though the point of the panel is to make new friends, we do not bring snacks for everybody. What we're avoiding is tons of cumbs, candy, and wrappers on the floor. We also have to mind the rules of AnthroCon, which prohibits the vending of food at panels. Above all else, we're keeping safety in mind. Your snacks might have something others are allergic to.

Join us for an intermediate level puppet fabrication workshop making fun dancing scarf marionettes! The panel will have supplies for 20 participants, and supplies will be provided on a first come first serve basis. Participants must be comfortable working with pliers, hammers, and hot glue. This workshop requires fine motor skills as we'll be working with fishing line and knot tying. All children need to work with an adult guardian, as this puppet takes a bit of coordination to finish. At the end you take not only your finished piece, but also the tools needed to keep stabbing when you get home! We'll be making baby meowrimos - a type of tiny little green kitty.

Tying the Knot: Basic Rope Rigging for Furries
"Believe it or not, this is a 100% Safe-For-Work panel... In fact, safety while working is the bottom line when it comes to this topic!

This interactive panel is for all those who want to learn the absolute basics of ropes, rigging, and the various types of rope and equipment used in the fire/rescue services.

We'll be examining rope access equipment and basics from an absolute beginner perspective, including:

Discussing basic Personal Protective Equipment needed for rope rigging;

Discussing the various types of rope/webbing, their uses, and safety considerations;

Practicing how to properly tie some of the basic knots (figure 8, overhand, water knot) used in the fire service;

Demonstrating how ropes can be used to construct basic mechanical advantage haul systems to move a load from one point to another; and

Having an opportunity to examine, handle, and ask questions about equipment used by rope technicians, tower climbers, firefighters, and other rope access personnel.

Attendees are welcome to come and only observe, however any attendee who handles equipment or participates will be required to don appropriate provided P.P.E (Gloves, Safety Glasses). While not required, long sleeves and pants are encouraged.

Disclaimer: This panel is NOT sufficient training to attempt low, intermediate, or high angle rope work or to construct haul systems for overhead/life-safety lifting. Mastering these techniques requires specific training. Work with a professional to confirm your ability to perform these techniques safely and independently before attempting them unsupervised.

Suddenly, anyone on the internet can generate images with mere prompts, raising many questions about how to protect and respect the amazing artists in our community.
